CLEAN UP
Stain Removal & Odor Control

Accidents happen, especially with new pets so let’s learn how to deal with them effectively!
The procedure for cleaning up after your pet may not come intuitively for you so we have provided solutions for spills, waste, and odors that may be contributing to a potentially hazardous environment for your family and pet. We highly encourage you to have the following supplies on hand so you are prepared when your pet inadvertently leaves you a “present”.

Note: Repetitive “accidents” or unusual behavior may actually be a warning sign of underlying problems. Your pet may be trying to tell you that he/she is stressed or have needs that are not being met. If this is the case, take some time to closely examine your pet and think of any major changes he/she may have gone through lately. Remove the stressors and your pet will begin to behave normally again. If there are no changes or you are deeply concerned about its behavior, promptly take your pet to the veterinarian. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

How to remove wet urine or feces from your carpet:
Supplies-

  • Gloves
  • Salt
  • Paper Towels
  • Enzyme-based spray for pet stain removal (e.g. Nature’s Miracle Stain & Odor Remover)-
Enzyme-based sprays do not contain harmful chemicals and are safer and more effective than detergent-based or chemical-based products. The enzymes will eat away the urine and remove the odor.
  1. For wet urine only: Pour salt over the wet area and wait several seconds to let it soak in the urine. Try to collect as much of the salt as you can and throw it in the trash. Place paper towels on top of the wet area and firmly press down with both hands to soak up any residual moisture that may be lingering in the carpet. Do not rub the stain-this will only further embed the stain into the carpet. Continue to step 2.
  2. For wet urine stains & feces: Spray your enzyme-based spray onto the affected area and continue to follow the directions provided by the product manufacturer.

How to remove old urine stains from your carpet:
The cardinal rule- Do not use hot water or it will permanently set the stain.
Supplies-

  • Black light (useful for finding old urine stains you may be unaware of)
  • Wet Vacuum
  • Water & vinegar solution
  • Enzyme-based spray for pet stain removal
  • Paper towels
  1. Wet the stain using a wet vacuum and lukewarm water.
  2. Spray the enzyme-based cleaner on the stain. Allow some time for it to take effect. You may now use any other carpet stain removing spray you have on hand if the stain is still there.
  3. Wet vacuum the stain again with the water and vinegar solution to remove any residual enzymes from the spray.
  4. Allow the area to completely dry.

Note: If your stain is still on the carpet, consider replacing that patch of carpet as a last resort.
